Biomedical Industry

The increased longevity of mankind can be significantly attributed to advances in medical research. Research projects across the biomedical spectrum, from crucial lab-based science to clinical trials, help to improve our understanding of disease, resulting in improved technologies that can diagnose, treat and cure.

Scientists utilise various techniques to identify, classify and observe microscopic organisms, cultures and materials. Microscopes are thus an essential tool in Biomedical laboratories.

Critical Inspection and harvesting of stem cells

The field of Stem Cell Research offers the greatest opportunity of finding treatments and preventions of the most devastating diseases and disabilities. The growing, harvesting and dissection of human cells and tissues in the laboratory, is a delicate process requiring a contamination free environment, while maintaining outstanding contrast and resolution from the microscope system.

Vision Engineering’s Lynx zoom stereo microscopes are used in stem cell laboratories throughout the world. The Dynascope® head is the key feature of the Lynx, allowing the system to deliver optimum clarity and pin sharp accuracy through a viewer instead of binocular eyepieces.

It is the ‘eyepiece-less’ viewer that allows the scientist to view the cells from behind the glass of a safety cabinet or laminar flow, thus maintaining the integrity of the contamination free environment.

An additional feature of the Lynx microscope is the tiltable mirror within the sub-stage of the unit which creates a pseudo effect for both darkfield and brightfield observation, maximising the contrast of the cells for both inspection and manipulation.

Routine Laboratory Microscopes

From a science laboratory in a university or school, through to a busy hospital laboratory, routine microscopes are used to educate the youth and assist clinicians in their diagnosis and treatment of patients. Across these sectors, there is a universal demand for convenience, performance and flexibility.

The Vision Engineering’s range of routine microscopes provides the solution to these fundamental requirements. The DX21 is a robust, compound microscope, designed to withstand the rigorous use within the educational and clinical laboratory environments.

The DX41 compound laboratory microscope offers excellent optical performance with a stable compact design and reduced footprint, providing ample bench space for accessories. A multi-viewing attachment is available, ideal for teaching and consulting purposes. Image capturing and alternative microscopy techniques, like phase contrast and fluorescence add to the flexibility of the range.

The DX61 inverted microscope is ideal for routine tissue culture and live cell observation applications. Expanded-Pupil technology is employed in Vision Engineering's patented ISIS eyepieces, this optional accessory can be utilised on both the DX41 and DX61 systems, optimising the ergonomics by increasing eye-relief and freedom of head movement.
