Senior Buyer
Summary
A vacancy has arisen for an experienced, technically competent Senior Buyer working within the Purchasing Department at the Send factory site reporting to the Group Purchasing Manager.

Role Summary
Manufacturing raw materials and sub-assemblies form the bulk of the Purchasing Department spend and consist of aluminium castings, injection moulded plastics, metal bars and electronic sub assemblies (PCB’s, transformers etc). Purchases are made in Britain, USA, Europe, Japan, China and India. The essentials of the Senior Technical Buyer role are:
  • Procurement of predominantly mechanical components and assemblies in line with production requirements.
  • Sourcing of component parts from low cost countries in particular.
  • Ability to interface with manufacturing and design departments using engineering drawings.
  • To effectively manage the procurement of components and assemblies meeting cost and delivery requirements.
  • Work on designated projects as specified by the Group Purchasing Manager and to assist Group Purchasing Manager.
  • To carry out vendor assessments and audits when required.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
  • Working with-in a MRP (MRPII desirable) medium batch manufacturing environment.
  • Experience of purchasing of castings, injection moulded plastics, metals and electrical components and assemblies.
  • Negotiating price agreements.
  • 5-10 years Purchasing/Supply Chain Management experience.
  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook (training on in-house systems will be given).
Desirable Candidate Attributes
  • Strong mechanical engineering background essential.
  • Experience of overseas sourcing in particularly low cost economies.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings a real advantage.
  • CIPS or studying for membership.
  • Team player but good self starter.
