Estimator – Subcontract Machining

About the Role:

Working in the Machine Shop, this position works closely with the Purchasing, Production Control and Sales Order Processing teams. The Estimator is responsible for estimating, quoting and closing sub-contract machining and any metal finishing required.

The position reports to the Group Machine Shop Manager.

What you will be doing:

  • Receive and interpret customers’ requirements from CAD, technical specifications or computer models;
  • Prepare detailed quotations, proposals and bids for sub-contract machining and metal finishing with support from the Purchasing and Machine shop personnel;
  • Review costs, acceptable margins with Group Machine Shop Manager;
  • Decide to bid or not bid on specific Requests For Quote;
  • Support Production Control and Sales Order processing with new order input onto the ERP system ensuring all details and customer requirements are captured within the BOM structure;
  • Support BDM with customer feedback regarding work in progress and delivery dates.

What we are looking for:

  • A proven, competent Engineer, whether through apprenticeship, academic, or time served;
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in any one of: Engineering/Manufacturing/Estimating/Engineering Business Development.
  • Familiar with CNC machining/manufacturing;
  • Able to read CAD /engineering drawings;
  • Software literate (Microsoft Office, social media) at user level;
  • Dynamic, well organised, self-starter;
  • Customer-focused approach and attitude – for both internal and external customers;
  • Ability to manage prioritise own work load and work under pressure in a busy environment.
  • The location of suitable candidates must be within a sensible (approx. 1 hour) commute.

What you will be getting:

This is a full time, permanent position being 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday 07:30am – 4:00pm, with half an hour lunch break. Flexibility on the start and finish times is available, in line  with the Company’s core working hours policy.
