Mechanical Inspector

About the Role:

Working in the Quality department, this position works closely with the Machine Shop. The Mechanical Inspector is responsible for carrying out the inspection of Milturn subcontract machined and finished components (including FAIR and other reports), high risk supplied materials, the verification of suppliers’ first shipments, inspecting machined and assembled products, final inspection of finished products and other inspection activities.  The Mechanical Inspector will also carry out inspections on part and batch supplied goods, inter-stage, final and machine shop first inspections of a full range of machined, cast, plastic moulded and plated components.

The position reports to the Quality Lead & Laboratory Manager.

What you will be doing:

  • Inspection of components and product through visual, functional and/or dimensional checks and updating the ERP system as required
  • Creating CMM programs and carrying out Machine Shop component inspection
  • Carrying out roving inspection
  • Carrying out packing where required and inspection of packing
  • Producing inspection documentation and reports such as FAIRs and Control Plans
  • Feedback and documentation of inspection issues to Assembly Team and relevant staff
  • Ensuring a high standard of housekeeping is maintained in the work area
  • Working safely in all activities and using the correct PPE
  • Ensuring all tasks are carried out accurately and in a timely manner
  • Other inspection related activities including inspection of final products
  • Any other reasonable request

What we are looking for:

  • A minimum of 3 years related and relevant experience and comes from a manufacturing background;
  • Experienced in the use of co-ordinate measurement machines, such as Aberlink Axiom too;
  • Experienced in non-contact measurement techniques;
  • Experienced in first principle measurement techniques including the use of micrometers, Vernier calipers, DTIs, height gauges, surface plates, comparator stands and slip gauges;
  • Able to read engineering drawings and understand geometric tolerancing;
  • Ability to perform First Article inspection and generate detailed Inspection Reports and Control Plans;
  • Experience of working to ISO 9001 standards is desirable;
  • Formal qualification in Mechanical Engineering is desirable;
  • Good communications skills required and an ability to work with personnel from other departments.

This is a full time, permanent position, 40 hours per week – Monday to Friday 07:30am – 4:00pm with half an hour lunch break, with flexibility on the start and finish times in line with the Company’s core working hours policy.
